September 2001

Dear new and old friends, August held visits to beloveds in five homes in Colorado and Texas. September promises rest and re-creation in Bernalillo, NM. I hope to embroider, meditate and take walks along the canal that edges the property of the Rochester, MN Franciscan women who have welcomed me for three weeks. My October trip to Assisi provides an opportunity to visit Spain as well as Italy. Since I am clearly on a geographical as well as spiritual journey I look forward to honoring Teresa of Avila who has been nudging me along for years. My witness to the Word has been discerned and clarified. The first stop on this new and amazing journey will be in Bailey, CO at 8500", in a lovely warm home. Snow will surely cover the grounds, aspen, tall pines as deer and elk wander below this Advent Aerie in the Rocky Mountains. Four women, old friends, have asked me to come to live and work there for the days of Advent - reading poetry, facilitating day long retreats, teaching others how to embroider their memories. A listing of the kinds of programs I am prepared to do can be downloaded (resume). It seems fitting that such a ministry of witnessing to the Word will begin in Advent. These old friends from the 10:30 Catholic Community in Denver and CWU are scheduling my presentations based on their needs. I look forward to such work in other parts of the country. Offer me the "carfare and housing" and I'll be there! If you wish to trace grandson Marcus Baxter's response to the diagnosis of the Philadelphia chromosome leukemia and why I left my home to travel across Nineveh, my letters from December 1999 through December 2000 can be found in ARCHIVES. Marcus will be 13 on September 10. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARCUS! Twenty-five years ago I traveled on a truck from London into Zaire with fifteen others. I will miss the reunion in Dubbo, Australia of this overland trek but remember that journey with delight and wonder. The poem for this month is "Bath". It describes an evening's ablutions on the Sahara desert, for God is Laughter, too. The embroidery is called "Earthen Vessels". There are three tiny clay pots beyond the flowers of this California garden. The THANK-YOU is to Faith Sand and Albert Cohen for their generous support of this web site. David Steele whom some of you "met" in my February 2001 Letter was Returned to Love on August 28, the Feast Day of Augustine of Hippo. Perhaps there is a realm in Heaven where those two worthies can debate Grace after such Grace filled lines. with Love, Justine
